The Great Debate: White Hat SEO vs. Black Hat SEO

White Hat SEO vs Black Hat SEOLast week, Kris Roadruck wrote an interesting article about SEO called “White Hat SEO is a Joke”. In this article, he claims that Black or Grey hat SEO is the only effective way to market a site. A few days later, Rand Fishkin, CEO & Co-Founder of SEOmoz (the web's most popular SEO Software provider), wrote a response article not only defending White Hat SEO, but proving it to be a much more afflictive and long term solution to rank on search engines. Here is that article, called “White Hat SEO: It F@$#ing Works”.

At Excelsior Interactive, we agree with Rand Fishkin and SEOmoz that White Hat SEO is the best choice for an interactive marketing plan. You can only outsmart Google for so long until you get caught. And once you’re caught, your site is basically worthless. Black or Grey Hat SEO may be an effective short term method, but in no way will it work long term. You see, the difference between Kris and Rand’s articles is that Rand could back up his claims. While you have to take Kris at his word, Rand provides stats, data and information supporting his article… working out to be a perfect example of the White Hat vs. Black Hat argument: the White Hat side offering quality content that is useful and informative to the reader, and the Black Hat side, offering a lot of fluff but no real substance.
